The extreme flood events that have occurred over the past two decades have triggered a strong action by the European Union to minimize the scale of flood risk. After the Flood Risk Assessment and Management Directive took effect in November 2007, a legal framework was put in place.

Following the European trends, the Institute became a leader in the field of flood risk management in Bosnia and Herzegovina and provides the following services:

•  Development of preliminary flood risk assessment;
• Creation of 1D and 2D hydrodynamic models (open watercourses);
• Development of hazard maps and risk maps;
• Development of flood risk management plans.

• Design and implementation of irrigation systems;
• Crop water footprint analysis in agriculture;
• Modernization of irrigation (operation and management).
